History

Gazebo and DeckIn 1977, the first Ananda members came from Ananda Village to establish a center and community in Sacramento.

In 1991, a group of private investors purchased the apartment complex in Sacramento where the community is now located. The Ananda Community's physical setting is a 48-unit apartment complex on 3.5 acres of land. Approximately 60 residents, adults and children, live in the Sacramento community.

The Ananda community was founded by disciples of Paramhansa Yogananda, the author of Autobiography of a Yogi, who advocated the creation of small communities as supportive, harmonious environments for the practice of yoga.
