Purification Ceremony
& Meditation            9-9:45 am

Sunday Service       10-11:30 am

Sunday School        10-11:30 am

The Sunday worship service at Ananda is inspired by the meditation tradition of the East and the ancient teachings of mystical Christianity, with inspirational readings from both the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita. Service includes music, group chanting and meditation, an inspirational talk drawn from the writings of Paramhansa Yogananda or his Disciple, Nayaswami Kriyananda, and a unique blessing ceremony called the Festival of Light. Before service begins at 10 am, you are welcome to a period of silent meditation from 9 to 9:45 am. Those who wish can also participate in a ceremony of individual prayer for freedom or clarity about a personal challenge, called the Purification Ceremony, which begins at 9 am. You may receive a blessing from one of the ministers and offer that prayer at the altar.

  • Each of us has a calm joyful center, deep within. It may get lost in the hectic pace of life today, but it is there, waiting patiently for us. Sunday worship at Ananda helps us get back in touch with that center once again—whether it be called the soul, the Self, or God.

  • dharmadas and nirmala-sm

Nayaswamis Dharmadas & Nirmala (left in blue) give services most Sundays with their characteristic clarity, wisdom, and humor. We also frequently enjoy services given by visiting ministers from other Ananda communities and our own Ministers from Ananda Sacramento including Nayaswami Jayanti, Chaitanya, Nayaswami Bhavani, Brahmacharini Chandrika and Victoria.

Our hearts and our sanctuary are open to people of all faiths, races, orientations. We welcome all truth-seekers, people exploring meditation for the first time, and anyone who seeks a deeper understanding of the meaning and purpose of life.

After Service, you are invited to meet the ministers and others in the congregation over free snacks and coffee which are usually served outdoors in the Temple courtyard when weather permits.

    Sunday School during Sunday Service

9:45-11:30 am, for children ages 3 and up who are potty-trained and able to participate without constant direction. This group meets in the room at the left end of the foyer.

Sunday School is available during the main worship service, and gives children the opportunity to meet other children and engage in supervised play as well as some simple spiritual activities such as gentle yoga postures and meditation.  Parents are always welcome to accompany their younger children whom may not be able to stay on their own. Parents with fussy babies may listen to the service on a speaker system in the foyer  or meditate in a room at the right side end of the foyer. Babies and young children are welcome in the Temple after the meditation portion of service if they are able to remain quiet.
