Sunday Morning Worship

Sunday Services include a Meditation and Purification ceremony at 9am, followed by Sunday Service from 10-11:30 am. People of all faiths are welcome.

You may begin your Sunday morning with the Purification Ceremony and meditation in the sanctuary starting at 9am. The worship service begins at 10am with music, a period of chanting, and meditation. A reading draws comparisons between the essential truths of the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita. Then you'll hear an inspirational talk. After the offertory comes, we close with a blessing ceremony called the Festival of Light.

The service is based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda whose mission is, in his words, "to awaken people to their need for Self-realization, through meditation, and through keeping good company, or fellowship, with other truth-seeking souls...to bring back to the world the original teachings and science of yoga as taught by Krishna, and the original Christianity of Jesus Christ."

This is why you will see a picture of Christ on our altar, along with the Indian saints of Yogananda's lineage. Yogananda's teachings bring a renewed understanding among Westerners of the deep, mystical teachings of Jesus—especially on the need for inner communion with God. We emphasize truths that are at the heart of every great religion.
